The Club Dumas

The quote was from the beginning of a book that had nothing to do with lj, but the quote made me think of lj immediately.

I read Arturo Pérez-Reverte's The Club Dumas a couple of weeks ago. It was unputdownable, with a plot that ripped along and fabulous book-lore details that made it a treasure-hunt as well. When I got to the end I thought things crumbled horribly. I'm over that disappointment now; it is a carefully crafted adventure and the ending is suitable. I think I was just mad that it was over.

I had never heard of a Johnny Depp movie, The Ninth Gate, but apparently it's based on this book.

This next book: nothing really jumped up and said, "Quote me!", so I'll just pick a representative fragment.

Since I spend my working days studying trends, many of which are downright disgusting, I feel it's my duty after work to encourage the trends I'd like to see catch on, like signaling before you change lanes, and chocolate cheesecake. And reading.

all I could think about when I was watching the Ninth Gate was "I can't believe he is eating and drinking and smoking while reading that incredibly valuable book!" It was a good movie, but I was a bit disappointed by the ending. Not really disappointed, just more dissatisfied.
