Good thing they started on a Friday

I read the news this morning and saw this quote from the superintendent of police in New Orleans:
"No one will be able to be armed," Compass said. "Guns will be taken. Only law enforcement will be allowed to have guns."

Checked back this afternoon and found that a federal appeals court has determined that U.S. citizens can be held indefinitely without criminal charges--as long as it's, you know, vital to national security. How you'd know that is, is, is ... I got nuthin.

So amendments two and six are disposed of in a single day. One workweek, then, and we could tear through the whole Bill of Rights at this rate.

I'm just stumped. I don't write about these things much because my rage is so impotent. I write letters, I march, I try to raise smart kids, but I just see day after day of reprehensible action and lack thereof and I feel powerless. Practically hopeless. I don't even know why I am writing this now.
