Movie thing a la Skipernicus

Total number of movies I own on DVD/video
About fifty, more than I thought I had (I just counted). Mostly Disney VHS tapes given to the kids over the years.

The last film I bought
Lawrence of Arabia. I bought it as part of a lot on eBay, but that's the one I wanted when I bid.

The last film I watched
I just finished My Dinner with Andre. The last movie I saw in a theater was Shrek 2.

Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me
I don't usually watch movies more than once, but I've seen each of these at least twice and would watch any of them again, especially if someone were serving popcorn.
The Bridge on the River Kwai
The Princess Bride
Cool Hand Luke

What did you think about My Dinner with Andre? I saw it in the theaters back when it was released. Interesting flick, and it sent me to watch Vanya on 42nd Street, which really gave me the idea for directing Six Characters the way I want to.

I thought it was a nice buddy movie for the thoughtful, sedate crowd. Is there a thoughtful, sedate crowd?

Short answer: I liked the way the two friends who had drifted apart came together without having to agree at the end.

It was interesting how many times the conversation made me think of people and situations I have known. As you can see from my short list of movies, I am big on story. This movie was not a story, but it was a picture of two storytellers and that certainly worked--it was appealingly evocative. Some of the filmic details probably escaped me: I saw a lot of Andre's face in reflection as the dinner went on (I don't know why) and the camera seemed to give the waiter more significance than I could explain. I wouldn't mind having another shot at watching it, and I probably will since Brian still hasn't seen the whole thing.

Yeah. Interesting.
