Happy Halloween

A friend was talking about Gretchen Rubin's The Happiness Project. She's interested in starting a group to set happiness goals and talk about them. I am always looking for new and different things to do over a beer so I read the book. It was really fun! Not because the book is anything wonderful, but because I read it during a weekend of hanging out with this same friend during a scout trip. Since the book gives a very shallow view of a privileged mom trying to mindfully examine twelve (the project was a yearlong pursuit) aspects of happiness, we privileged moms had a blast bitching about the book's many shortcomings. And yet...

It's still an intriguing idea. While I think it sounds trite and selfish to state that my personal goal is happiness, I would be satisfied and delighted if my kids grew up to be happy people. I don't have lower expectations for them than I do for myself, do I? Is there something better I would hope to obtain? I'll figure that out this month, maybe. In the meantime, here's a picture my neighbor took this afternoon at her party.

If you don't see anything, blame my host, pair.com. They were once reliable but I've stopped recommending them. Not happy!

Thanks! You would not believe how popular the Brian costume is in central Ohio.

It must be like Ben Rothlesberger costumes in Pittsburgh.

That's it exactly. A local phenomenon. It's really adorable when you open the door to a toddler checking his fantasy football stats on a little Blackberry while balancing a dirty martini and a trick-or-treat sack in the other hand.

He stayed on all night, too--I should have had greater faith in the power of duct tape, but I was surprised.

FatCow.com. Just saying. Tell them Hawkeswood.com sent you. 9-)

Dirty martini? Hilarious!

Oh, and I got everything out of the unit, by the way. You're awesome! Next time, we should find something to do that doesn't revolve around working, right?

I will check them out, thanks! Although it would be a giant pain to switch all the sites; I'd rather pair just got their act back together.

I am very glad to know you got the rest of the stuff out in time.
