I've been reading Beard on Bread and I've made a few things. Last night I made this pistachio bread, which came out mostly lovely and tastes fine. I brought it to work this morning. Why not show the whole ring, you ask? I haven't figured out how to join the ends without having it end up looking like something NSFW is why.

HA-HA! Too funny!

Interesting that you should mention that book. I have Beard on Pasta. I looked up the bread book and I'm please to see it's at my public library, so I'll have to check it out.

The book is a good one, lots of personality along with good recipes. James Beard loves butter. There is butter in almost every recipe, and he recommends putting butter ON everything. I will have to check, but I don't think there is a three-page span in the whole book that does not contain the word "butter" at least once.

The skull eyes make that quite amusing. My mom calls these swedish coffee rings and she made them back in the day for teachers and whatnot.

I believe you misspelled "appalling".

Your mom is wonderful. I wish I had been nicer to teachers and whatnot.

I love the skulls. It makes it even more NSFW.

Wow, this looks really good, and I am not even a fan of pistachios. Impressive!

My mom used to bake for people some years, also. I did it two or three times. Would love to do it again, but I don't have the time at all. Maybe I can get the kids to help me, and we can just do two or three kinds, have fun, cut the perfectionism out...

You know, you never struck me as the "obscene baked goods" type.
