Hey Nineteen

OMG 5SOS covered American Idiot and it is ... dangit, what is the new word for adorbs? I can't keep up. But the truth is V's band of the hour is bubblegum punk in the cutest way. She played this song for me today and they did a great job. Then she made me watch a bunch of videos; I'm done, but I can understand their appeal.

What I can't understand is the stuff coming out of the speakers at the grocery store and CVS and so forth. I understand that my age group is now at our spending peak and marketers want to make us comfortable by playing familiar tunes. One factoid I can't shake loose is from a marketing consultant who advised meeting planners to select event music popular when the average participant was fifteen years old. I sorta remember fifteen and don't think that I'm not grateful when I don't hear Molly Hatchet or Foghat or Journey or REO Speedwagon when I'm trying to find the best deal on spaghetti noodles or feminine supplies. No, I'm getting Flock of Seagulls and Echo and the Bunnymen. I'm getting INXS. I have yet to figure out why, but I shop a LOT (see: birthyear) and I will continue to listen and ponder.
