Frequently?

Have I uncovered a movement to create personal arsenals of reaching devices in homes across the land? I usually manage to collect a variety of items in an order as I attempt to achieve free shipping. This looked weird. Would it be worse if it were true or if Amazon were lying? I suspect the latter.

Having used 2 out of the 3, and a 4th one, I can say they do perform differently.
Each of them have a circumstance/target where they perform poorly.
I can easily see a fit of frustration, "buy them all maybe one of them will work, and we'll send the rest back!"

I hadn't considered that this is an odd type of item. I still think that Amazon is flummoxed and suggesting that I buy two other grabbers as do many people in an attempt to move grabbers. But perhaps you are a more typical consumer than I*.

*Probably not, but perhaps.

while my experience is real, (the first one shown is useless for anything except jars, the second one is actually pretty good unless the object being picked up is round, like a jar, and the one I have that isn't pictured doesn't seem to be good for anything except crumpled paper and similar objects), the scenario I proposed should have activated your sarcasm meter.

My first thought was that people buy an assortment with intent to return all but their favorite.

My parents used to do that all the time with stuff, but they were shopping locally. It makes far less sense when you have to pay return shipping.

You guys! I don't even want one grabber and now I'm tempted to buy all three AND RETURN THEM ALL just to see what happens.

It's hard to tell with Amazon, since they have a very strange business strategy. They might pay return shipping (as they did when I returned a GPS unit I didn't like) or they might refund my money and tell me to keep the things (this just happened when I tried to return a Kindle cover that didn't fit).
